throw a book launch party

Throw a party for your book! You can ask your favorite bookstore, library, vineyard, bar, or coffee shop if you can host your book launch there.

Due to the pandemic, unless you live in New Zealand, you’ll probably be hosting your book party virtually. Libraries and bookstores are typically well equipped to accommodate virtual book themed events.

Here are some tips to for when we are back to in-person events: Be sure to ask the venue if they will allow your event before you start making announcements. Invite people to attend and ask the venue to help promote your project. Things to consider bringing to your book launch:

  • Balloons!

  • Signs with your name and book title.

  • Copies of your chapbook to sell and to sign.

  • Be ready to do a reading, practice your presentation.

  • Multiple waterproof archival pens to sign books.

  • Bring a friend to take pictures.

  • Bring complementary copies of your chapbook for the store staff. Offer to sign the books for them with personalized inscriptions. Be sure to thank them, be genuine, and make a good impression throughout your visit.

  • Take responsibility for both setting up and cleaning up after the event. Be positive and helpful.

Libraries are often happy to stock local authors. Request a copy at your local library or offer to perform a reading. It’s a great way to connect with your local community and to gain new fans.
